been playing 2205 (with the patch to upgrade to 2215 engine and all other patchs) it is very cool indeed. It is so much better than 1935 and still has the cool old garbage level as in 1935. I might mod it a little later on, see what shader packs I can get to work with it.
Overall, retail shoc is still better with more polished features, but it is cool to see heaps of the talked about cut (and unfinished) features from the last known builds from before the big axe dropped on the project... so to speak.
For example, the initial artifact quest is cool and you don't start with a detector, but when you get one it has to be equipped on the belt. And it's funny how the stalkers won't attack the bandit factory with out a shot of vodka first... very cool.
Anyway, as per BobBQ's advice from page 5 I have the english text working now, so I can actually understand what is going on. But for me I didn't need to copy any of the rus files across to eng, I only had to set the language to eng in system.ltx.
In some of the forums, guys are talking about a crash you get on start up, and I got it too. It's very easy to fix, it is to do with a file that is named with a russian character, but the english OS or compressions or somthing renames it to eng char... all you need to do is:
1. when you get the crash, open up your log and scroll to near the bottom where it will say that it can't open a file called: stul_1ñ.ogf
2. find the folder: \gamedata\meshes\physics\stul and make a copy of the file:stul_1a.ogf.
3. then just re-name the copy to the text from your error log. Bingo, easy fix.

Thanks to all for the insights on darkscape, very interesting. I think I've seen mention of the helicopter chase scene in the scripts.
Must admit the idea you have to jump in a vehicle and go through the level avoiding a chopper seems both like an exciting prospect... And a terrible one. Exciting because it would have been a bit different to the usual run and gun methodology of the game, but terrible because of the vehicle handling and their inane ability to explode on contact with sign posts.
However, I think they could have still cut the vehicle aspect but made the level work but I guess as dezodor said that git Dean Sharpe likely wouldn't have wanted the hassle of redoing the mechanics of the level. |

---QUOTATION---
Thanks for clearing that up - I had remembered something or another that was planned to go back in to CS (which was cut again), but couldn't quite remember which map it was . . . it's been a long while since I've mucked about in the CS folders.
---END QUOTATION---
I think you mean the Pripyat underground. |
