My 1986 Romanian G (Romy G). Purchased the kit minus receiver a month ago. Just recently finished it up. Gonna leave the furniture as is.

I finished this '47 M44 earlier this month. Stock was completely stripped and 12 hr hot bleached, decosmo'd, sanded to 600grit and refinished w/ minwax natural & golden pine stain with 4/0 steel wool between coats.

Bolt action was sanded to 600 grit and polished the trigger sear, trigger pull is now at 4lbs and sharp, crisp break. Finished with a dozen coats of satin poly with several coats minwax wax paste for the final touch. I was going to polish the entire bolt like I did to my 91/30 but the cocking piece & bolt have too much gouging in them.

The sling leather straps were soaked in extra virgin olive oil for 2 days to bring back pliability.

The pics don't do any justice. The finish has a deep, rich amber tone and the stock is as smooth as a baby's butt.

Great Work, looks mint
Although I still can't really come to like the fixed Bayonet on M44, otherwise real beautiful Rifle.

Thanks Vike.
I am however looking forward to a new Mosin project, the M38, M44's cousin without the pig sticker. Probably in summer.

I'm more and more regretting that i haven't yet moved out of Germany.
Or at least regretting to not having Black market contacts
Maybe i'm gonna get me a M44 too, albeit only a demilled one, they're quite cheap. And being the awesome Craftsman I am (bit of bragging doesn't hurt, eh ) it might even be possible to revert it back to working condition...if I ever get a Lathe in my Workshop that is. The Barrel and Bolt( or parts of it) would need to be exchanged for sure, it's unspeakable what they do to this fine Guns...how any honorable Gunsmith can make himself do this is beyond me :-\

Show your arsenal!

Sleep Dirt~

Nice stuff you have.

If you're a fan of "The Walking Dead", an M-44 was recently carried
by a person in a group that Darryl Dixon briefly traveled with for a
couple of episodes. Strangely those weapons weren't taken later.

Hi TS,
I haven't watched it due to my work schedule over the last couple of years but my son loves the show. I'm gonna get the DVD set and watch the series. I'll keep an eye out for that M44.
Thx

BTW...the AK's that are hanging on the wall in the links I posted aren't mine. They belong to a fellow AK forum member. The lucky sod!
