Trouble with Steam version

Hello, and welcome to my question.
I downloaded STALKER from Steam and love the singleplayer and such and I could go on a tangent about it but I have a problem with multiplayer.
When I got it I let Steam do its automatic updates magic and apparently patched it to version 1.0005. However, I've only played one game on version 1.0005 and then the server using this patch disappeared. The rest of the servers use a 1.0006 patch. I tried to download a patch from 1.0005 to 1.0006 from multiple websites, but whenever I start the executable, this message pops up:
"You already have the update to version [1.000500] installed. It includes all previous updates.
No update required."
I'd like to know why a patch to 1.0006 is thinking it's a patch to 1.0005 and any help on finding a valid patch would rule.
Thanks in advance. ?

I have same problem, but the answer is quite simple.
You can't patch steam games with .exe patches.
1.0006 was never released into steam.
You can try and contact SteamSupport.
