Make Novice easier please

You can select from four different difficulty levels in the drop box here. In order of easiest to hardest these are: Novice, Stalker, Veteran and Master. The higher the setting, the fewer useful objects can be found in the game world, and the greater the probability that the enemy will hit you when firing on you. For example at Novice level, the enemy only have a 20% chance of hitting you, while at Master they have a 50% chance of hitting you with each shot.
You can also adjust the difficulty on the fly, so if you find a particular area too hard then turn down the difficulty temporarily. I play on master difficulty, only because i found the others to easy.

You will play better with practice. I haven't read all the thread, but keep in mind that novice level does not only make it easier to kill you. You will have a harder time killing others too. Higher difficulty actually means your skills get better.

This is an interesting statement. What skills are improved by increasing the difficulty level?

Not actually a "skill", maybe shooting skill, but it is my understanding that with higher difficulty you will be killed the more easy, but so will your enemies too when you fire at them. Maybe I'm wrong, this is just something I have "allways" believed. Just happy if someone can deny or confirm

Learn to deal out head shots and you won't need to go for chest attacks even on master. Besides if you make chest hits reach 2 for armored guys, you'll kill anybody with bad armor in one hit anywhere in the body, which sucks big time.

Indeed, if you're skilled enough and have the right equipment, then you can take out anyone with just one hit to head

It should only take 2 hits in the chest to take someone down on novice. I keep running into dead ends because I don't have awesome twitch skills. I think it takes like 5 on novice and 10 on stalker. I realize people really work hard on these games, and Stalker is a cool game, but it's just too hard. There's too much radiation too.

I miss games like Morrowind that were focused on player involvement/freedom instead of difficulty.

The first time I played on Master, I recall this was after completing the game on Stalker for the first time, I spent several hours replaying the rescue Nimble mission. Every time I went to the car park I either died, or came out looking like a bag of meat that just got personal with the mincer. Now, I do this silently and restart if I get hit a single time because I consider it a standard to get past the Nimble mission without getting hit.

I'd say all you need is patience, not just in the first mission. Start a new game in Master, find the silenced pistol near Tolik and save the game after you tell Wolf's scouts you will do it alone. Redo this mission until you have successfully saved Nimble without having to use a medkit. To make things easier you can run around the car park, looking at it from different angles, mapping out the patrol routes then take the easy targets out silently before taking out the rest. In the end you may notice that your playing style has changed, mine sure did.

After this you may go back to Stalker difficulty and you'll notice things have gotten easier, even further into the game. Eventually you'll run around the CNPP with a Makarov killing everyone while reading the local newspaper.

I think you just need to play a bit more and get the hang of the game. I started out playing on the next difficulty level up from novice (sorry, can't remember what it's called off the top of my head) and find it's giving me a good game. Not too easy but not too hard either. Nicely enjoyable and I'm not a hardcore gamer.

As for the amount of shots needed to take down an enemy... well it all depends on the type of enemy you're shooting, what you're shooting them with, and where you're hitting them. Go for head shots and upgrade your weapons. Dump that crappy pistol you start with and start grabbing some guns from those dead guys. Radiation isn't excessive and you'll find it's there to make you think a little about how to get around the map best. Stalker is a game where you have to think a little if you're to get anywhere with it.

Failing that try Pac Man!
