I found this thread

https://www.gsc-game.com/index.php?t=community&s=forums&s_game_type=xr2&thm_page=1&thm_id=16504&sec_id=22

and have used Pliskins variables from it.

So far the combat seems to be working closer tio what I'd like, although i have noticed that the NPCs are a little unaware at times lol.

Is the stealth in Clear Sky better implemented?

Arnie.

I didn't notice that stealth is better in clear sky i dont even use stealth.

Maybe someone who has both games can tell you.

Since you have received some ways to get around the problems you've been having, the place to discuss further modding of your game would be the Mod Discussion section of this forum.

Iv'e had a little scout round the various .ltx files, but i cant find anything that might be the NPCs detectioon settings. Where would i find the variables for this?

Arnie
---END QUOTATION---

Well, you can look at gamedata\config\creatures\m_stalker.ltx. For sounds, examine the [stalker_sound_perceive] section. There are other areas involving detection distances and angles that you might be able to figure out; see [stalker_vision_free] and [stalker_vision_danger].

I highly recommend that you perform a search for MrKlorox's stuff; he had a modified version of that file for his Darker Nights Evolved mod.

The bad news: Even though you can tweak the detection settings a bit, you will likely wind up with statues. Stealth is somewhat problematic in this game, due to the poor sound attributes stored in the sound files in their "comments" sections. There have been some attempts at fixing this; see the work done by Darius6 and {imperialreign}.

If you get serious, you can download the SDK and install it per the instructions, then edit the sounds and adjust the distances at which they are perceived. For example, how loud are your footsteps, and how far away can they be heard by NPCs?

Disclaimer: Use of the SDK is at your own risk.

I gather that the hit probability thing affects the player as well as the NPCs. Is there a Mod out there anywhere that would lower the accuracy of the NPCs but not the Player? I find that if they are anything further than fairly close, I can empty mgazines at them and the dont drop. The NPC detection is set too high IMO as well.
---END QUOTATION---

The hit probabilty only affects the NPCs, the way Diplomat stated. Folks think otherwise because their perceptions on second and subsequent shots is that they seem to miss. You are most accurate with zoomed single-fire, pausing between shots to permit your aim to resettle (and the NPC hit anim to settle -- there may be a mismatch between hit box and animation, or some other factor).

Again: Your accuracy is not affected by the hit probability settings. See [link]http://www.metacognix.com/stlkrsoc/WhatYouKnowThatAintSo.html[/link]

If you can get the actor.ltx file from a mod or database extractor*, you can change the settings to improve your situation immensely. Change hit_probability_gd_novice in that file to a lower value; 0.20 means 20% accuracy when they shoot at you.

Make your shots more accurate by lowering disp_base from 0.8 to 0.4, and disp_aim from 0.04 to 0.01 or even 0.0001. The first is the Marked One's contribution to firing from the hip, and the second is when you aim (iron sights or scope). This affects only your portion of accuracy; the weapon has its own accuracy component and later weapons are considerably more accurate.

Then look at [actor_immunities_gd_novice]. Lower the damage you receive from bullets: Change fire_wound_immunity from 0.5 (half damage) to something lower like 0.1.

These settings are for Novice or Rookie difficulty.

¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯
For those of you who want a harder game, in any mod:

Change hit_probability_max_dist in gamedata\config\weapons\weapons.ltx from 10 to 250, and change hit_probability_gd_master in actor.ltx to 1.0. While you are there, make your head and eyes more vulnerable, like that of the NPCs: change bip01_head, eyelid_1, eye_left, eye_right to "2.0, 0, 1.0, 5.0" and jaw_1 to "1.0, 0, 1.0" (without the quotes).

*Don Reba has a database extractor that works with .NET:
[link]www.codeplex.com/SmartModManager/Release/ProjectReleases.aspx?ReleaseId=10596[/link]
See the associated info there and visit [link]http://www.smart-mod-manager.org/[/link] for info on the Smart Mod Manager if you haven't yet done so.

The Zone Reclamation Project has this file if you can't find it anywhere else. Find it in the Downloads section of [link]www.metacognix.com/stlkrsoc/[/link]. You can copy actor.ltx.original from the gamedata\config\creatures\optional\ subdirectory over to your own STALKER gamedata subdirectory, renaming it to actor.ltx and then edit it as shown above. This file by itself will work with any patch version of the game, I believe.

You might need to create the gamedata subdirectory and modify fsgame.ltx to enable the game to see the changed file; see the mod's installation instructions. The Smart Mod Manager makes this easy and painless if you want to install the whole mod (1.05 Test recommended), but you need to be patched to 1.0004 or later.

Arguments about whether or not 'easier please' requests make me a pussy aside, can anyone tell me if there actually is a such a mod out there? then i can make up my own mind whether or not to use it.

well I have seen people talking about using a "Trainer" to play SoC to make the game easier, but as I've never used one I'm not sure how they work.

try;
http://www.gameburnworld.com/gp/trainers/stalkershadowofchernobyl.shtml
grab the Trainer which relates to the patch version you're using.

What is up with all these people wanting easier games.

I mean, do you want to run through them in ten minutes or what?

I`ve said it once and I`ll stick by my previous comment "GO PLAY PACMAN"
---END QUOTATION---

No, I don't weant a ten-minute Stalker experience. Which I would have thought was obvious. Your attitude baffles me.
