Mate, where do you find universal_acdc.pl? I only have the regular acdc.pl.

Also, man there's a lot of section_name = inventory_box! Haha

hey NatVac, sorry I checked it today before I saw your message and saw all the translation issues were solved. Please ignore my message previous message.

One thing I found, not sure if it is ZRP or not. Military deserter spawns with a proper model if he is a "newbie" but if he spawns as experienced, he has stalker outfit. What's the cause of this? Here is a screen: https://i.redd.it/onfm1pypcfa41.jpg

The links to the current Zone Reclamation Project (ZRP) download site are in my first post on the previous page (as of this post).
__________

LeadHead, thanks for the playtesting! You don't need the Rostok minimap fix for ZRP 1.09; it's really only useful for those using vanilla or ZRP 1.05. And yes, the ZRP flashlight exacerbates the lack of light-culling through walls; there's no good answer for the short distance of the dim default flashlight.

The other tweaks are optional, too, as you indicated. This is what works for ZRP users: If you don't like a change, you can adjust it to whatever you want.

There will still be stuttering until the resources are cached for a level, but things are getting better. I hope to include a modified all.spawn to keep the secret stashes online to reduce this even further (see below).

And no, the PDA diary is broken. This should be fixed in the engine. I currently think that any hack fix via config/script will not be satisfactory, like putting everything in the "encyclopedia" category. But it is still on the list, just in case.

---QUOTATION---
Have to mention that the "points of interest" on the PDA map (shown with large transparent blue circles) are absolutely tiny in the minimap. Is this intentional, an engine limitation or a clash between modifiers?
---END QUOTATION---

Mr. Fusion provided an excellent update to the markers so that they didn't stick. I'll examine it to see if this can be addressed. Thanks for mentioning it.

Thanks again for trying this so soon. I hope it is not off-putting; I enjoy frequent playthroughs because they are all different, but most players want a lot more variety when they play a game. I definitely appreciate the feedback!
__________

Storm Shadow, the commented section starts with line 514 in universal_acdc.pl. Just search the file for inventory_box. I'm still using the original acdc.pl; what I did was take the extracted all.spawn alife_l*.ltx files and search for all instances of "section_name = inventory_box". For each such object, I replaced this line:

object_flags = 0xffffff3f

with this one:

object_flags = 0xffffff3b

This just changed the last 'f' into a 'b'. New game required to use the updated all.spawn, but it works well enough to be a significant contribution to the smoothness of the game, as even with SSDs you will experience lag when objects switch online the first time, and treasure boxes switching online seem to always cause a hitch while running.

Please note that this may not help with otherwise-vanilla games. The vanilla "marked-but-empty online stashes" problem might extend to the whole level instead of just the stashes received within switch_distance, so an accompanying loss workaround, either bardak's (used by ZRP) or AMK's, might be necessary.
__________

Thanks for the contribution, openyourmind. About a month after you mentioned this localization issue a year ago (in your first post!), I put the promised ZRP Translation Guide on the ZRP downloads page, and about a month or so after that, easy peasy provided the files for the Russian translation. The dialog problem with Bes was solved a long time ago and gave ZRP compatibility with 1.0004, 1.0005 and 1.0006, and this gar_hellcar_start_31114112 quirk with Bes' dialog was kept for legacy (compatibility) support. Unfortunately, non-English localizations see the label instead of the text, as you found out.

These problems you found and addressed are also addressed by the translation file, but it is likely that most players who downloaded ZRP before these files were available (as in your case) are still unaware of the translation guide and the Russian translation. Hopefully your second post will serve to inform these players that a Russian ZRP translation is now available.

String translations

Hello there! I just played through Stalker SoC for the first time in Russian with your mod, it was a wonderful experience, thank you so much!

I noticed couple of strings were not translated and I didn't use any optional things the mod offered.

the strings are

Novice_outfit_description and novice_outfit_name
st_stash_emptied
job never (refusing trader's quest so it doesn't show anymore)

If you want I can provide translations for them when I get back from work. I don't remember anything else. It wasn't too hard to find them once all gamedata was extracted.
---END QUOTATION---

Hello, sorry for quite a delay lol. Here are the translations

<string id="novice_outfit_description">
<text>Обычная плотная кожаная куртка, каких много. Слегка усиливает противопулевую и осколочную защиту. Неэффективна против аномальных и других воздействий.</text>
</string>
<string id="novice_outfit_name">
<text>Кожаная куртка</text>
</string>
<string id="st_stash_emptied">
<text>Схрон очищен</text>
</string>
<string id="tm_seek_job_never">
<text>Я не хочу это задание.</text>
</string>

Replaying the game I am finding some weird things, currently in garbage, probably a typo? When talking with Bes, in dialogue you get gar_hellcar_start_31114112. However, these same lines correlate with russian version gar_hellcar_start_311141112 (extra 1 at the end).

Typo? Version specific thing?

more missing strings
<string id="tips_gar_seryi_help_1">
<text>Всем кто меня слышит! На нас напали бандиты, нам нужна помощь! Братки, выручайте, беспредел твориться!</text>
</string>
<string id="tips_gar_seryi_help_2">
<text>Бандиты охренели, блин, да есть кто-нибудь рядом?! Нам тут кердык приходит!</text>
</string>

NatVac, still alive, that's great. Happy new years buddy.

There's a commented-out section in the Perl code for the universal ACDC program that provides a way to dynamically force inventory_box items to remain online. I highly recommend an all.spawn built with this code block restored for use with the ZRP. It completely eliminates the secret-stash-based component of lag. This lag can be demonstrated by helping Fox and talking to him after dealing with the dogs. Just head north after getting the stash info from him, and you will notice a pause or hitch when you pass the last building. This does not happen with a inventory-boxes-always-online modified all.spawn.

Really, wow, that's an awesome find. What section are you referring to exactly?

Cheers mate,

Happy New Year everyone, and reporting in!

Game plays very nicely with some of the tweaks applied. Trying to keep it as vanilla as possible.

Playing 1.09 XR3 with 1.0006 Steam version. General performance feels about the same. No particular additional mods applied - just very minor stuff like the Rostok minimap and SoC sound fix, MrSeyker's original crow model and such.

Adding the ZRP flashlight tweak feels off - NPCs close to walls have a tendency to have their flashlights leak through walls. Especially noticeable in underground levels. With the ZRP tweak, this almost illuminates entire corridors with glitchy NPC flashlights. Unfortunately had to revert it back to vanilla due to that reason. Still happens with vanilla flashlights, but it's not as obvious and creates a fake global illumination effect with some imagination.

Similarly, the compressed inventory icons just don't feel right, ended up reverting on that change as well.

Loading times do not feel particularly shorter, but I am running off an SSD, maybe the difference is there, but not great enough to notice any change just by feel. Probably should run a timer and see how they compare.

Game performance feels slightly improved. Haven't done any benchmarking, but I am not experiencing any stuttering or any notable framedrops at all, even when large groups of stalkers are turned in their online state.

A bug I thought was fixed, but apparently is not is the PDA diary. As soon as you close it, all entries show up as unread. Is it a manual tweak found in the modifier application that I forgot to enable?

Have to mention that the "points of interest" on the PDA map (shown with large transparent blue circles) are absolutely tiny in the minimap. Is this intentional, an engine limitation or a clash between modifiers?

So far enjoying my playthrough very much, even though I finished one play through very recently and I have not even touched the gameplay changing tweaks.

Hey, NatVac! Hope you are enjoying the holidays!

Currently finishing my "not-quite-annual" STALKER SoC playthrough. I'm quite amazed actually how well the game runs vanilla on my current computer, having experienced only 1 CTD so far all the way until the CNPP.

> I don't have enough data on how well it is working on the various system configurations out there.

Well, I am sure I can help out here with at least 1 computer sample. After I finish my current playthrough, will install ZRP 1.09.

> What are you interested in doing? I'd like feedback on 1.09 releases, for one thing.

Interested I am in largely everything!
What I actually can do is definitely provide feedback, implementing scripts/editing gamedata is something I can probably learn, but have never actually gone far enough to investigate STALKER's guts, albeit it seems relatively simple.
I have limited audio and image editing experience, as well as have done some 3D models for very small game projects, however as I understand, such changes are outside the scope of this project.

> I would really like to know if either the "stable" or the "experimental" version of the ZRP (whichever one you use, if you do so) runs with the beta.

Tempted to get 2 birds with one stone and install ZRP 1.09 and 1.0007 beta at the same time, however this would make troubleshooting harder (if any will even be required), as I have no prior experience with either. Let's see, will make a quick playthrough with just ZRP soon, then will try ZRP 1.09 + 1.0007 beta and let you know how it goes.

Merry Christmas, Happy Hanukkah and any other season's greetings, everyone! I wish you all well in the year ahead.

I'm glad you got it working, 100RadsBar. Thanks for letting me know.

Welcome to the forum, please55! I am glad you were answered in a timely fashion by MrSeyker, for whose help I am grateful + .
__________

Hi, LeadHead. Welcome to the forum!

> 1) How compatible is ZRP 1.09 XR3 with Steam copies of SoC?

It is as compatible with Steam as 1.07 R5 RC is, although I don't have enough data on how well it is working on the various system configurations out there.

> 2) Is it worth downloading ZRP 1.09 XR3 right now, or is it safer to just go for 1.07?

If you haven't played the game, I'd suggest 1.07; it is a known quantity although some of the difficulty tweaks in the Modifier really don't do much (see below).

If you are seeking some improvements over 1.07, then I suggest trying 1.09. It is leaner and has faster loading and lower CPU burden than 1.07, enough that your GPU might actually get a decent workout. It also has the latest documentation updates and modified configuration files for the Modifier program that incorporate all the knowledge gained since 2015 (which is more than you might think).

> 3) I really love these kinds of tiny but important tweak mods. Is there any way one can assist with development?

What are you interested in doing? I'd like feedback on 1.09 releases, for one thing. We can also use translation support for ZRP. Suggestions for improvement (and maybe direct participation in implementing them) are welcome.

> 4) I noticed there's a lot of additional tweaks you can do with the ZRP modifier program. Is it compatible with 1.09 XR3?

Yes, although you should use the configuration files that have been updated for 1.09 XR3 (included, along with the Modifier, in the release). For each config file of interest to you, please read the accompanying Config Notes, available by selecting a configuration file from the dropdown on the upper left of the Modifier window, then clicking the Config Notes button.

> 5) (slightly off-topic) What is the SoC 1.0007 beta version available via Steam?

I can't tell you about the beta itself; although I have used Steam in the past, at the moment I don't have the Steam launcher installed on any of my currently-functional PCs. From what is posted here:

https://steamcommunity.com/app/4500/discussions/0/1639790664938977963/

An official GSC developer has provided a work-in-progress beta of an upcoming 1.0007 release. One can infer that GSC is actually fixing issues with the game (yay!). I don't know if it requires a new game or if there is a complete set of game files that need to be downloaded. There might be some notes accompanying it.

For anyone reading: If you try it, I would really like to know if either the "stable" or the "experimental" version of the ZRP (whichever one you use, if you do so) runs with the beta.
