I found an interesting game today

https://forum.escapefromtarkov.com/

One of the developers supposedly worked on a S.t.a.l.k.e.r. game/mod.

"Escape from Tarkov will be a traditional full purchase release, with neither free-to-play nor microtransaction elements."

Still in closed beta though.

It's been around a while now, Sadly not a single player title though. To be honest I'd forgot all about it, It was first posted here back in 2015 by vitamin1.

In this video it looks really good. I was gutted when I learned it was mp only.

What a shame. Who wants human-controlled NPCs run around like Tushkanos in their game?

It's a legit question.

An AI-controlled NPC simulates the natural movements of a real life human (resting, walking, smoking and other idle behavior) because it's programmed to do just that. And unlike human-controlled multiplayer NPCs it can also be given relevant in-game dialogs or at least generic chatter (cheeki breeki etc).

In contrast, the jerky movements of a human-controlled NPC appear hysterical to the onlooker because jerky movements is the rational way of playing a game (always run to save time, look right and left with twitchy movements, jump like rabbit). You won't notice this when controlling your own character, but watching multiplayer NPCs or even someone else's first-person gameplay video makes it obvious. I guess it's OK from an esport perspective, but all gameworld immersion goes down the drain.

Not to mention the online chatting...

I remember the first and only time I entered a Bf3 multiplayer match and everyone was doing the Kangaroo, I thought it was very strange, It's effective though.

What doesn't make sense is developers creating a realistic gameworld when the multiplayer NPCs ruin the immersion anyway. It might feel less schizophrenic if multiplayer matches took place on say a training ground.

Ironically, if singleplayer NPCs acted the same way the game's AI would be scorned, but in multiplayer it's fine for some reason.

It's those crazy kids, Imagine if in 3 years time we're sneaking around in STALKER 2 just to turn a corner & be confronted by a squad of Monolith fighters coming at you on Pogo sticks, That's the stuff nightmares are made of & it'll be the day I hang up my mouse and keyboard & go back to books & jigsaws.

Except that the jumping is the rational way to play some games --at least until developers make hit boxes and jumping stamina more realistic (which in turn may not be fun in singleplayer).

Another thing I remember from multiplayer was all your team members rushing away like stalkers towards the Wish Granter, with no regard whatsoever for their in-game survival chances, and before I caught up with them all the action would be over. No way in Hell I'd do multiplayer in Stalker.
