Cyberpunk 2077

I had no intention of buying this Game, however a friend on Facebook got it on Steam and was creating video content that he was sharing on Facebook. It looked like a cross between Bladerunner and The Fifth Element ( movies ) and was amazing in scope, detail and openness. While I have steered clear of Space Games in the future, this had just enough 20th Century legacy environs to ground it, like a future GTA but still recognizable.

Unlike the GTA Games and their 3rd person perspective, that I find annoying, because it's like you are constantly looking over someone's shoulder and they are blocking your every move. This is first person which is my favorite type of Game.

GTAV has 1st & 3rd person, I imagine you know that already but thought I'd mention it.

Just hours before it launched, I was eyeing a Digital PC version on Amazon that was only $49, the lowest price I had seen compared to GoG or Steam for $59. However I did not get this pre-order version that came with some digital goodies. Later the next day, after it launched, this deal was gone and I thought just as well. That's when my friend posted more videos.

I went back to Amazon and was looking at all the available but unwanted PS5 and XBox versions and then I spotted another PC version now at the higher price of $59. I momentarily regretted not getting it for $49 until I realized the version I was looking at was for the physical copy PC version. It came with a physical soundtrack, map and other goodies, included some digital goodies too. I jumped on it. Within a few hours that version had sold out.

Looks like history was made:

This weekend I finally got Doom Eternal & Star Wars: Jedi Fallen order as they were both at 60-65% off on Steam. I'm still waiting for a decent discount on RDR2 & I'll eventually get Cyberpunk too albeit a couple of years from now.

I really only fooled around with GTA San Andreas and I couldn't shoot people in first person. I'm not talking about sniper rifle but moving my character around and needing to shoot somebody up close. Third person shooting was workable but wonky and as long as they weren't directly in front of you which was not possible. Driving a car doesn't really count. I looked at the Wiki and it's not really clear on San Andreas. I gave my brother GTA IV and I think it may have had it but I'm not sure.

Seems correct, see videos below. Epic gave it away for free a while ago, BTW.

I can only imagine if Stalker 2 is released on PC and Consoles at the same time, we just might have a similar situation of whining Console Players.

It's not just the consoles, in fact I think both videos above were shot on PC.

Cyberpunk 2077 Review - A gamers perspective, not a corporate one: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=llmMN-nIjLA
(mild spoilers first minute, but note how he says the Use function is hardwired to the F key, I'm not even surprised anymore).

............

I've read quite a lot about this game recently (mostly because I was curious about how decadent it would be). The basic mechanics seem very similar to The Witcher 3:

- Theme park gameworld, with a long checklist of well-written quest stories, but just window dressing in between. Many casual players may still like it on their first playthrough, but I lost interest in TW3 after 1.5 games.

- Annoying RPG-inspired upgrade trees. In TW3 this meant that your level points mattered more than your playing skills, equipment or the enemy's equipment. Enemies have their difficulty and health indicated by a number floating above their head.

- Huge amounts of useless loot, while the few good loot items are level-gated (meaning you're not allowed to equip them until your own level has matched the items').

I also believe the cyberpunk genre (junkies with hitech and a bizarre fetisch for protheses) is not my cup of tea, so I'm not seeing myself playing this anytime soon. GTA5 on the other hand looks promising.

Cyberpunk relies heavily on crafting, leveling and finding the right legendary weapons and gear which can be found in the map and are very powerful. Then it will become very casual but at first it has a steep slope especially when playing on very hard. There are exploits tho to level up and buff your skills and make money but you need to progress abit in story mode to unlock map areas first.

I actually clicked on your provided YouTube link. I immediately stopped it when I heard the reviewer's voice. Sounded like he was trying to imitate Scrooge from Charles Dickens' A Christmas Carol. Then after a minute I went back and tried to overlook his fake voice ( real voice? ) and focus on his words. Scrooge was more interested in trying to attempt to be funny than telling me something about the Game, so I stopped again. For your benefit, I tried a third time to listen and watch this reviewer, I can honestly say this is one of the worst reviewers I have ever tried to listen to.

Is this someone you listen to often? Is this one of your favorite reviewers? If so, I don't believe I have ever clicked on this reviewer before. Has a fair size audience with a lot of fans who seem to like his acidic voice and tastes. As I said, I know it has bugs and problems, more so on the Consoles than PCs but I'm not listening to people who review bomb one Game after another for laughs and YouTube money. I'm strictly going by the feedback of my friends who I trust on Facebook, most of them Stalker Players, who are used to some bugs and can overlook a few rough edges of a 7 day old Game and focus on the Game Play and the fun they are having. There's enough of them who are having a great time and posting videos and screenshots for me to be exposed enough for me to decide that I'm interested.

It seems to me you have a chip on your shoulder about this Game before it was even released...and that's okay. I know you and we all can't like everything. I know you are more of a Mass Effect kind of person than a Cyberpunk type of person, so to each his own. We both know this isn't Stalker. It doesn't have the combat or AI like the Stalker Games, so it's not like a worthy genre comparison.

You know, if you make your character creation with features and characteristics that let you make yourself look and feel like the culture you come from...that's inclusion. Something people have been screaming for to get the last couple of decades. Why is the character a white male? Why can't they be female? Why can't they be black? Why can't they be a Lesbian? Why can't they be handicapped? The complaints never end.

But no...this is 2020 and instead of pleasing people with inclusion, the pendulum has swung the other way. "I'm offended!" I'm seeing features and characteristics that look like me and I feel like I'm being made fun of or somehow my culture is being taken from me. I am a victim of Cultural Appropriation. Go figure.

The crafting is why I hated the Anomaly Mod ( Most popular Stalker Mod on Facebook at the moment ) where you had the option of finding all the parts and you could do your own weapon and armor upgrades, provided you found the parts and could rent a Repair Tech's workbench or conquered your enemies and took their's momentarily.

The part I hated about the crafting was the looting. I would kill someone and go loot them. They would have a huge amount of maybe 50 items or more. I don't have the luxury of standing in an open area and sort through them without getting killed by hostile NPCs or mutants so I had to grab everything and run.

Suddenly I can barely move because I have 70kg of useless junk. I start sorting through it coming across used wet underwear, damaged ammo, cigarettes, weed, porn magazines. Then I'm looking at strips of metal, wire, gun parts, armor plates and other highly dissected pieces. I'm so busy concentrating I don't realize my health bar is slowly decreasing and suddenly my heart is pounding, I'm making breathing noises and realize I'm dying of radiation.

I didn't recognize the junk artifacts among all the gun and armor parts. They aren't equipped to my belt so I didn't expect to be affected. I take the usual medkits and/or radiation treatments but my remedy only lasts temporarily. Soon I am dead. I was unaware that I must buy or find unique expensive containers to hold each single artifact for carrying on me. I was unaware that I must buy or find another type of unique expensive containers for equipping each single artifact I want to wear.

The level of complexity of hundreds of items and the time spent to go out and find them is apparently why people love the Anomaly Mod. I'm more of a Call of Chernobyl type of Player. I don't want to go crazy on all the additional items and like a variety more closer to the retail Stalker Games.

Have you tried the Anomaly 1.5 Mod?
