Unusual military equipment

Flakpanzer Gepard: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HrndqdqIVaQ

Just like the video creator I thought this vehicle looked great when I was a young boy, actually it still looks a bit futuristic.

Unusual military equipment

I guess this post could be both unusual or ordinary equipment since we have neither.

Lost me there, Tejas!

EU countries are currently experimenting with some nice looking designs, such as the French/German MGCS (pictured at the top) and Polish PL-01 (pictured further down):
https://www.offiziere.ch/?p=37955 but I suspect any production vehicles will look much more boring.

You created a Post titled "Unusual military equipment". Since we don't have a Post on "Usual" or "Ordinary" military equipment, I'm saying that the nomenclature of "Unusual" wasn't really necessary since it could be about ALL military equipment. There is no doubt a vast quantity of that, most very fascinating through history than only the limited range of the unusual.

My comment was half way a statement of truth and a half a joke on the naming process. If you don't get it than it's no big deal. Just don't be surprised if someone adds something here that may not fit the bill of what you describe as "unusual".

From your article:

---QUOTATION---

A single main battle tank from Poland to Portugal would be a decisive step in the EU’s plan to make Europe a serious military power.

---END QUOTATION---

What? The first step in creating an EU Army? With Germany leading the way and without the UK involved in the EU, I'm not fond of this idea.

---QUOTATION---

The impression in Poland is that there is a lot of talk about European weapons systems and European armaments programmes. However, France and Germany primarily mean bilateral Franco-German programmes. The intention is for the arms industry in France and Germany to increase its market share in Europe – at the expense of the defence industry in other countries such as Poland.

– Marcin Terlikowski – armaments expert at the Polish Institute of International Affairs (PISM) in Warsaw.

---END QUOTATION---

Exactly. I couldn't have said it better myself.

Oh you meant the whole topic/thread (when you wrote "this post" I thought you meant your own post).

Yes, anything military-related is welcome.

I'm sure they can't resist that temptation in the long run. I guess it could also be for standardization reasons.

I don't think the EU would dare to antagonize the UK too much as long as the latter is friendly with the US, but if/when that changes who knows? Then again, for how long will France and Germany manage to cooperate with each other?

Imagine a military conflict between EU and Russia, with Poland taking the biggest hit while at the same time being forced to buy more of those EU tanks from Germany to defend the rest of the EU. The tanks would of course be designed primarily with Franco-German needs in minds and be less than ideal for use in Poland.

That said I don't know anything about the performance of any of these proposed vehicles. Maybe France and Germany don't trust Poland's engineering capabilities (of which I know nothing either)?

Here's another futuristic design (top of page), not sure what it is but the looks remind me of a jogging shoe https://www.defenseworld.net/news/26398/Germany__France_to_Launch_Architectural_Study_on_Future_European_Tank_Project
I suspect it's the marketing department that comes up with these futuristic designs. Then once the contract is secured the engineers take control and make something more utilitarian with no regard for esthetics.
