guy owns piece of land, where he spends... a lot of time, in his bare shorts - building everything from scratch; and I mean everything

(also, interesting thread - will follow closely , I too am awaiting the inevitable downfall of civil society, much like any sane person would)

Wow. What a fascinating and informative Youtube page that guy has building so many different things. Sadly when the inevitable downfall of civil society happens, most likely we will lose electricity, the internet and digital information such as this. Books will once again become our primary source. Let's hope that doesn't happen any time soon.

Word to the wise, learn these skills now and not when it's too late.

I've made a couple of different Bug Out Bags. Backpacks pre-filled with supplies in case circumstances happen that you have to quickly leave your home and hit the road for a multitude of reasons. Generally at least 3 days of supplies to get you from point A to B.

I've also made a couple of Bug Out plastic tubs to quickly load in my vehicle. More on those later.

Here's several Bug Out Bag videos:

Also consider a Bug In Bag. In other words unlike a Bug Out Bag you keep in your home ready to depart, a Bug In Bag is one you may keep at work or in your car with maybe 2 to 3 days of supplies to help get you home.

If you decide to go out in the great outdoors, be prepared and understand what dangers there may be.

More of a pessimistic view than one of the practicality of the effort:

The Sling

if you're going to need a projectile weapon, one that's tried and trued and has an abundance of ammuntion, you can't go wrong with a sling:

so, couple of years ago (about 6-7?) a friend taught me how to craft a sling; it took me about 7 hours (I'm not really used to doing these kind of things) to make and.... many hours to learn

I'm far from being any kind of 'master', but I am able to hit 'a fair sized target' at about 10-12 meters

I only have the one sling for now (never mind the screw-nut, it's detachable) but I've been planning to make one out of paracord also, rather than just the hemp one, I have currently:

I don't really know that many videos and stuff [about] slings, but there is a forum and here's a Primitive Technology showing off the basics:

the main way that I'm 'preparing' for whatever may come is, partly by building various 'huts' and other constructions, from scratch - no tools of any kind needed, but also walking/keeping in shape, all the while scouting around my town, figuring out various landmarks (since I don't ever use google maps) and learning to properly find North, South, East & West, regardless where I find myself, but apart from that there's the basic skills of knowing what plants, berries, roots, etc. are edible in the environment that you reside in (be it in your country, or just your backyard) aaaand apart from that, getting to know the weather-patterns seem (to me) like a good idea:

https://www.instructables.com/id/Predicting-Weather-with-Clouds/

back when I was a kid they used to plaster these on the milk-cartons, so that us kids would actually learn something while having breakfast; unfortunately I've forgotten almost every cloud-formation out there, but fortunately the Internet has since arrived, containing all the basic information one might need in order to re-learn the mysteries of nature and other such valuable information

also an example of edibles in nature and when to forage them:

Yep. Very important to get hands on actual experience. If there's a future decline in technology and power, we won't be able to get on the internet and YouTube to learn how to build a hut, windmill or water wheel. This is why despite our digital world we live in, books will be the most valuable in a post-apocalyptic world. If you decide to store food, weapons and other items be sure to include books with your resources on how to do things. I have several on what you can eat in the wild and how to use nature to provide medicine and care.
