I'm glad you posted this. I had seen that one singular picture of the vehicles transposed above and below the water on Facebook, but there was no more information on the what, where, why and how. I wish the article had shown a picture of the opening on top of the surface. It seems to be chosen as a place to dump unwanted vehicles out of sight. However one has to wonder if all the toxic chemicals will leech into the local water tables.

It sure took a long time to get an answer on this. Hyperthermia kills more people than the general public realizes. Go outdoors and not have enough water and you can overheat very easily, especially if it's really hot. I guess they weren't going to drink that local water that was not safe.

I once encountered close to 45 degrees C (110F), it felt like moving in jelly. A friend that experienced 50C (120F) said people were totally wasted, just sitting in the shade under a tree unable to even think. Very strange to go out walking with a small child and a dog in heat like that. Regarding dehydration, that last article mentions an empty 85 ounce bottle (almost 2.5 liter), but between two adults, a child and a dog I guess it wouldn't last that long. It's also possible that they didn't fill the bottle properly, or that water got spilled out by accident.

I think the article mentioned it being around 70 degrees ( 21 celsius ) when they started out. They definitely did not have enough water. That wasn't even enough water for one person being outside, with temperatures going as high as they did later in the day. People just don't realize how much water you need when you go out in extreme conditions.
