Are you on Coffeelake now? It seems Intel is having the worst time with these bugs and patches and I was wondering whether you've had issues?
I'm considering jumping to Coffeelake myself because the experience I had with Ivy bridge and Haswell was largely hassle free while Ryzen is a bit too quirky for my tastes, It runs fine but I'm having issues with simple things like rebooting, especially after a DDU and driver change, I also had my motherboard fail last week leaving me with no Internet access for a couple of days so I had to order a replacement motherboard blind (over the phone) and while it works okay it has the main pcie slot positioned differently and where the graphics card was a tight fit with the cards new positioning I can't close the lid anymore which means I need to get another motherboard. I was going to buy a Ryzen refresh in a few months and I might still do that but seeing as it'll now include a new AM4 (470) motherboard moving back to Intel is an option too.

Which Spectre patch is this, the one that came with Windows Update (that AFAIK only protects the Edge and MSIE browsers from online Spectre exploits), or the BIOS/motherboard patch? Is the latter even available yet, except for brand name PCs?

Found a CPU Microcode update from January 4th for my ASUS Prime Z270-P board. Not sure if I should install it yet though.

Nasha~

Actually I think that I mentioned that I anticipated buying the parts and then putting them together may not happen as quickly as I expected. That has been accurate still. Having the time to do so, especially since I was obligated to design a website for work back in November and December took up much of my free time. I have to have a lot of free time and space to do so in building a new PC.

Add to this my unexpected purchase of a Gaming Laptop for Christmas and I've instead been using my free time to goof around on it and experience Gaming that way. I can't complain as buying the parts when I did turned out to be very lucky in that my video card now costs 2 to 3 times to get the same thing ( if at all ) and other things like DDR memory have gone up in price, some M.2 SSDs are no longer available and in general PC parts have risen overall or are out of stock.

As I originally said, I have a working PC with an old CPU and a GTX 970 so I'm not dependent on needing an immediate replacement. I simply wanted an upgrade by doing a new build so it's not as pressing to get it up and running. Most likely in the next few months. Hopefully long after this Spectre & Meltdown thing is figured out.
