I finally bought the C64 Mini. Great deal for 64 Games. Picked it up on Amazon for $36.99 ( was $39.99 when first viewed ) and now it's down to $35.48. However as a frequent Amazon shopper, don't expect it to go lower as it's just as likely to go back up again and even shoot through the roof in cost like the Nintendo NES Classic did.

This started out as $59.99, went up to $79.99 and is now $101.99

glad to hear you managed to buy one, in case those prices go up as well - it is a beautiful little machine with plenty enough games to justify its existence (IMO)

as for pricing, there seem to be a tendency that certain people buy a whole bunch of these mini-consoles and then they sit and wait for the hype to spread and once the retailers have sold out, they start selling them off, one by one

fortunately the retro-gaming community mainly consists of enthusiasts who just want to have fun, but considering the nostalgic value for certain items (not to mention availability/rarity) prices seem to go crazy every now and then, so it might be good idea to buy 'em while they're still at, or slightly below retail prices

Do many of the Games require/need a 2nd Controller? Just asking if I should pick up one why they are still available/inexpensive. Or did you say somewhere you didn't like the Controllers and liked another brand better?

The C64 Mini Review - Quality emulation, a generous collection of games and external ROM support is hampered by a decidedly low quality controller that can prove to be more of a killjoy than a joystick.

So that last review didn't really like the Controller that comes with the C64 Mini. I think Lord_Santa said something similar but he hasn't come back yet to tell me that for sure or what he recommends instead. A quick search on the internet gave me a few links to consider and read more about.

Which joysticks work with the C64 Mini?

Generally I like Microsoft ( non-Xbox ) Logitech and Saitek products. I'll probably try one of my older Microsoft products or maybe a new Logitech F310 Gamepad .

yeah - the joystick has (unfortunately) proven to be an issue with the "The64 Mini", due to cheap quality - there's a 'hack' people been using in the Facebook -group, which consist of changing the (inside of the) handle, with a screw

apart from that, I believe that there are ways to make just about any USB-controller to work, as long as one 'writes the correct routines' for it, so to speak (basically a config-file, which then need to be transferred to the device, via USB, IIRC - but keep in mind that it's been some time since I tinkered with mine)

a lot of games may utilize a second controller, but a lot of them (such as the EPYX games) are quite possible to play multiple people, using but one joystick

(I've been trying to keep up with the forums, at the same time that I'm realizing how much time just... disappears now that we have a 'new-born' (4 months in a few days ) as such the forums serve as a perfect diversion, from cats, baby and wife - alas, I can't always get my thoughts written down, before becoming distracted)

thanks for the congrats guys and sorry for going off topic - figured I'd put it out there, since I prefer not making too much of a fuzz with regards to such matters (not even our family/friends had any idea, until very late in the pregnancy) - it might be due to this whole... 'sharenting' biz (parents sharing pictures/videos, etc. of their kids in social media/blogs like it was going out of style) - I'm hoping to teach my child some fundamentals of The Internet (security) and Humanity (social awareness) before being introduced to such matters.

and back on topic, here's a site that might help with regards to configuring joystick, etc. (if you wish to try a 3rd party controller, not listed as compatible)
