Hey... you know how Clear Sky and Call of Pripyat lost a bit of soul by moving away from freedom and exploration; and how the original game's creators left GSC and made a linear shooter. Now, here are finally people who get it.
The Long Dark is a first-person survival game made by a team of professionals and inspired in part by STALKER. I won't repeat their pitch — just go and read all the wonderful things they wrote on their Kickstarter page.
Looks like something taken from the movie The Grey.
"The walking ghost phase of radiation poisoning is a period of apparent health, lasting for hours or days, following a dose of 10–50 sieverts of radiation. As its name would suggest, the walking ghost phase is followed by certain death"

Finally pledged. My credit card expired, and getting a replacement from a foreign country takes a little while.
---QUOTATION--- Hope it'll be as much of a shooter as a survival game. Apocalypse without fighting is lame. ---END QUOTATION---
Here is what the Kickstarter pitch says about this:
"Encountering other survivors can be a risky proposition, but this is not a game about shooting or thoughtless killing. Combat is rare, and highly lethal."
And from a recent interview:
"What makes The Long Dark different is that it’s more Jack London than George Romero, inspired less by American urban survivalist fantasies and more by a Canadian frontier that remains untamed, where man is not the real monster, but another of nature’s potential victims."
---QUOTATION--- Personally, I don't much care for the shooting part in Stalker. It is all about exploration and atmosphere for me. ---END QUOTATION---
Indeed, if stalker was just about shoot to kill, then it wouldn't have been nearly as interesting, I feel. Unfortunately you need to cater for all sorts of tastes for a game to be popular, something which stalker got right in my opinion.
