Mutant Year Zero

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qpph8q5FVKc

"...two stalkers ...a stalker's job is to go into the Zone..."

What will they think of next, a FPS with Donald Duck?
---END QUOTATION---

I like the look of that. Sadly it seems to be Xbox only.

EDIT: A quick Google shows it coming to all three main platforms so I'll keep an eye out for it now.

Cheers for posting this.

EDIT 2: It's got a Steam store page,

I remember some people getting excited about this a couple of years ago on Facebook. I had forgotten the name put remember the cartoonish characters of the duck and razorback. Just like then, I have no interest in playing as a comedic cartoon, no matter what the setting. Plus top down role-playing games are not my cup of tea. Pass.

It looks kind of humoristic, but at the same time it feels like sacrilege.

actually it's a 'reboot' of the tabletop RPG "Mutant" by Äventyrsspel - I used to play both the original (1984 version) and the later ones (1989 version) as well as R.Y.M.D. (I still have the box and expansion... somewhere), not that impressed by Chronicles (which also came for the Sega Megadrive and Super Nintendo)

mind you, I haven't played any Mutant game since R.Y.M.D. and haven't gotten a proper gaming-session of Mutant going since the early 90s, but from what I do recall it was quite the adventure... of course, I was much younger and less jaded back then and we had a brilliant game-master and since it all takes place in Sweden, where we live(d), etc., etc. it was all quite awesome

I'm not sure how well this game in particular will be (Mutant Year Zero), what with the very limited characters (three... *sigh*) and seemingly limited scope, I think it might be worth looking into in hopes to support future iterations, perhaps - but apart from that I believe that I may be passing up on this one - I've no deeper interest in playing Howard the Duck, when there is such a variety to choose between in the original

either which way - it's a game-series well worth looking into, for inspiration if nothing else - of course the originals are (AFAIK) only available in Swedish, making them rather limited in terms of accessibility, which (I assume) is the main reason it never gained that much attention in the first place

(same goes for "Drakar & Demoner and Drakar & Demoner - Expert - basically to Swedes what Der Schwarze Auge is to Germans)

Hmm, does that mean the talk of Stalkers and Zone is taken from the Roadside Picnic novel, and not from the Stalker PC game?

well the 'Zones' were always there, but it doesn't sound as... 'interesting' in Swedish, so to speak - and also... Stalkers would not be the correct terminology 'back in the days' playing Mutant, since... it was/is a Swedish table-top game and the closest thing to a "Stalker" (from what I can tell), would be the character class: "Upptäcksresande" (translates to "Explorer" ), since the Zones (or "Zonerna", as we'd say in Swedish, which sounds... 'way less cool') are places where there is indeed 'interesting stuff to be found', but the game Mutant itself was more inspired by the table top RPG "Gamma World" and other contemporary post-apocalyptic fiction, I believe

I hadn't ever considered 'Mutant' and its 'Zones' and 'Explorers' in the context of Roadside Picnic or S.T.A.L.K.E.R. before, but if I'd make an educated guess, I suppose that it is in an effort to reach a broader/international audience and at the same time trying to stay contemporary and relevant and thus trying to 'leech off of' a corner of the S.T.A.L.K.E.R. -lingo, especially now that it [said lingo] has been 'meme-ified' to becoming a point of internet culture and thus easily recognizable and digestible by 'most people' in their specific target-group (as mentioned, this is but my own guess)

That was a quality movie for sure. Maybe a FPS (or 3rd person) with Howard wouldn't be such a bad idea.

Nothing wrong with a little leeching I guess, even the Stalker game itself borrowed heavily from both Roadside Picnic and the Chernobyl disaster.

glad to see someone else appreciating Howard the Duck - I always found that movie to be a great B-movie with excellent music and acting
I did however give up trying to complete the C64 game back in the days:

https://youtu.be/xrVKDFXV7xw

it would be interesting to see some kind of resurgence of Howard, especially in this day and age... hehe - it'd be... intereting to see how the world would react to his presence

yeah - I was using the term 'leeching off of' due to lack of words at that moment, rather than meaning anything negative by it - I for one am happy to see that both S.T.A.L.K.E.R. and Roadside Picnic has gotten more widespread attention and acknowledgement, since this serves as basis for a living community (however scattered) and a solid foundation for publishers to 'dare take the leap' should the day ever come that S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 gets announced 'proper'

Alien: Blackout

This name was trademarked by 20th Century Fox for use with video games, with an official reveal being rumoured for the 2018 Game Awards next month.

Related to this maybe?

Alien Isolation was a masterpiece, It put the bar real high regardless of the genre so if they can get Blackout as right as that it'll be one to keep an eye on imo.
