Multiplayer Lan issue workaround

I got this working, here's what you have to do.

Plug your system into a hub with each computer using static IP addresses. It will not work through a router with DHCP handouts. Not good.

I do not see any servers on the internet....

It's highly possible that the game does not support PPPOE interfaces either.

Another game, Chrome has the same fault... There is a way to fix that, and it's to force your (dynamic) I.P. address in one of the config files... It sucks having to go through that everytime you disconnect from your ISP and reconnect... but at least it worked.

So far as I can see, there is no way to do this with Firestarter.

The fact that the game does not work out of the box in a LAN is very bad indeed.

I'm not talking about internet WAN games only LAN games. When you use servers on the internet you're on a wide area network. Local area network is a network on your internal network.

I know what you're talking about, I was just saying that I cannot find any internet servers.

Only about three hours ago I read that this game does not support online play.. what a hell of a feature to decide to not have for a Deathmatch style game... I hope they don't expect to make a profit off of this title.

we plug into drops in the walls, i thnk the network back bone is one big switch hub. In any case , all of our ip addresses are locked. so is it the lack of a hub that would be the problem there?

Unfortunately I think you are right.

The engine is very very very well made... But I don't think they quite knew what to do with it once they fully optimized it... Hell they're not even trying to market it.
