Problems running Firestarter - suggestions

I'm having problems with this game. It starts out okay but then turns into large blocks and stutters. Characters appear with no definition and are light blue. The game often crashes. The text becomes invisible and is replaced by colored blocks as if it is highlighted.

I am running Windows XP Pro with the latest service packs. On a PIII 930 with 256 Mb of RAM. I have updated my video drivers and have Direct X 9.0 and the Logis Codec.

Does anyone have any suggestions or is there a patch available?

No patch available.

Try disabling DXT texture formats.

Yeah, thanks. I've already tried that and it didn't make any difference. Anything else?

Set depth bits to auto?

If you are using an nVidia card, try reverting to older drivers.. I think the 45.23's are the most stable ones (for some reason since then, nvidia cards especially older ones have been getting all kinds of problems in older and low-profile games.. ).. I don't remember the exact version, though. Was released May of last year I believe.
