Why no publisher support for Firestarter?

Nothing on the main page of GSC or Hip games or Russobit_M announces the North American release of the game...

If I didn't see it on the shelves in the store, I would have never known!

No ads in magazines.. no ads on gaming sites.. Nothing.

This game had tons of potential, and it's very frustrating seeing the community as barren as it is... Even the Russian forums are hitting maybe one new post a week.

The same thing happened with Hover Ace. It was released out of the blue, and it's almost as though the makers just want to forget that it ever existed.

It has no online play.. This by far is the most devastating aspect of the game... Why not Gamespy support at least?

I have a bad feeling that there will be no development kit, patches, or anything added onto this game.

Where did the disconnect happen?

I tracked the game's progress for quite some time, but even my interest is almost killed by the redicuously long delay (it was released in Russia in December), no online play, numerous bug reports, and almost no support.

The box looks cheap. The huge "HIP" logo gives me the feeling that I am going to see it in the dollar bin soon.

Hmm... The box you're looking at must be different from the box that I have.. because it definitely isn't cheap looking..

The cover is pushed out.. so it's 3-D like.. and it opens up for screenshots of the game.. and the back has more. Good looking shots too.. Comes with a jewel case.. a feature many games nowadays lack.. and an instruction book (though useless) inside it.

But it was already $19.99 at release.. Worth it, I think for a ~10 hour diversion (deaths included) in the SP path... and really good music (I don't normally like techno.. but in this case it's exceptional.. IMHO)...

It pains me to think how much more popular it could be with just a little bit more work... Too late now though.

As far as bugs go... It runs just fine for me. On Space 5 the skybox would disappear intermittently, but nothing major... Constant playing with details maxed and not a single crash or lockup.

To be honest, the game will only be released here (Alberta, Canada) in April, so I have only seen the preview boxshot. I did not realise it was embossed, and such.

As for the price, I would pay any reasonable amount of money if the game is good, but I buy new games only rarely. Price/quality ratio is not even a consideration for me.

Like I said, they delayed the game for a rediculously long time. I do not see how this can be justified, since there is no voice in the game, and only a handful of text, and it seems they have still not worked out compatibility problems, and have not added online play. Many good games are coming out this and next month, and FireStarter just does not stand up to the competition. My personal choice falls on Perimeter.

Don i agree with you 100%, it was sad so see no voice in the game no multi, no story. All it has going for it is hte eye candy, the guns get boring having a heavy then a lite mod. but it was a cheap game to keep me going untill stalker is out. and also it showed what gsc style of installatiion and agreement with my pc.
