I finally got CS running after years of playing STALKER SoC, CoP, CoC, and Lost Alpha.

This game is really good!

It is tough too: I spent at least 5 days in Swamps getting gear and weapons enough to get past Military at Cordon.

Stalkers getting down in the prone position to fire is really cool!

Tons of missions/tasks to do: I currently have about 10 "Collect your reward" tasks in my PDA.

In my opinion this game has the potential to be the best of the series, but I am only just starting.

We will see.

Clear Sky experiences

My first bloodsucker encounter was interesting- they don't go completely invisible but seem to be invulnerable to damage until they show themselves. I wasted a ton of ammo from a safe position on them.

I think I see why this game was not popular among Stalkers. It is very task heavy and if you just follow your PDA you will not experience much going on in the Zone.

You will stay busy though. Developer's intent I guess.

More experiences/observations

When fighting in a group: "Hey merc help us out!", other Stalkers will push me out from behind cover when moving around to take my position!

I ask everyone if I can help or do anything for them and the answer is always, "You can't.". Have I completed all missions?

Have you noticed the sun rises and sets from the same direction?

After joining the Loner faction, everyone still calls me Merc.

The Stalker guitarists have learned some new songs, and they sing!? I stopped and hung out around a campfire in Army Warehouses for several hours just listening.

Doesn't that happen in SoC too? Can't remember.

Could be. Also you must complete existing quests for that faction, IIRC. The fetch quests for the Clear Sky faction in the Swamps will regenerate though.

Doesn't it rise in the West and set in the East (or so I'm told)?

They do? You're not using a mod?

BTW, make sure to stand close to NPCs, their attempts to make you start talking are sometimes hilarious (especially the Bandits).

TM5000~

Each new level and with each new Faction you meet, you have unique
and individual "Quest" Items to find and deliver back to that person.
Sometimes they come from a specific person and sometimes they do
not but be careful not to take them from a person in a risky area ( like
a level changer or near enemy lines ) since their death will cancel the
task, whether you are searching for it or have found it and returning.

Another feature is each new level and with each new Faction you meet
there is a limited window of opportunity to buy activated stash locations.
This means you should not enter each new level broke. Save up enough
money to have at least 20,000-30,000 rubles when you leave a level and
go to a new one. Buy the activated stashes as soon as possible. Usually
from important NPCs like Nimble in the Marshes or various Squad Leaders.

Another thing to consider is the Faction option. You were forced to join
Clear Sky in the first level but once you leave you are back to being a
Mercenary. GSC gave Players the option to join any Faction. Most new
Players have a tendency in their first Game ( I did ) to join the Loner
Faction not realizing the implications. You automatically make the Bandits
your enemy by doing so ( or taking the hostile tasks against them by the
Cordon Loner Trader which I advise against doing any of those ) which
also means other things you don't find out until later. One of the most
important has to do with various Repair Techs only upgrade some of the
unique Armors or Weapons. The Bandit Repair Tech Limpid is the ONLY
one in the Game who does the 3rd Tier Upgrades on the SEVA suit which
is the best in the Game. However be aware joining the Loner, Freedom or
Duty Factions give you access to their Faction Exoskeletons. FYI the 2nd
best Armor in the Game was the CS-1 Armor that you could/should have
gotten from Clear Sky and fully upgraded to 60 BP. I recommend a CS-1
Stalker ( Sunrise ) suit combo. Upgrade the Stalker Suit to carry more
weight and switch to the CS-1 for Combat situations. Eventually you can
replace the Stalker suit with the SEVA and upgrade it for Environmental.
The 3rd Tier upgrades are either Environmental ( Anomalies & Weight
carrying ) or Combat ( Heavy Armor ) which should suit your needs.

Be aware of what all Faction relations entail. Join the Loners makes all the
Bandits your enemy. Join Freedom makes Duty your enemy. Join Duty makes
Freedom your enemy. It's really foolish ( IMHO ) as a MERCENARY to join ANY
Faction when you are on a mission to pursue Strelok and his gang. Being
a neutral Mercenary works best to access ALL areas, use ALL Repair Techs
and buy things from ALL Traders. Joining a Faction is something that you
can do in your 2nd, 3rd or more Games for replayability and experience.

Lastly another dynamic to be aware of ( and the least known and talked
about ) has to do with what I call Level Migration. In other words each
Level may be a certain way or be doing certain things based upon the
Player's actions but the Game is designed not to let the Player be aware
of this obviously. What does that mean? For example in the Cordon, the
Player upon arrival is given the PDA task to go talk to Sidorovich. Most
Players leave the Marshes and go straight to him unaware that the very
moment you do, the Level undergoes a mass migration of the NPCs and
Mutants changing from their original positions to kinetic or movement
positions. Find empty Military tents across the road from the Rookie
Village? Before talking to Sidorovich there are soldiers there. Likewise
the Car Park has NPCs you can encounter before the later scripted mission.
Garbage, the Dark Valley, the Agroprom, and the Army Warehouses where
you meet a new Faction all have Level Migration dynamics. In the Dark
Valley you talk to the Freedom Leader and he sends you to investigate
Freedom positions where you find everyone dead. If you visit these places
BEFORE talking to the Freedom Leader, you'll find them alive. Likewise
in the Army Warehouses, if you delay talking to the NPC you are prodded
by PDA to talk to when you first enter ( run pass him quickly ) you can
explore a Level that is quite different than AFTER talking to him. AFTER
talking to him you find the nearby Base full of Military. BEFORE talking
to him visiting it you will find it fully occupied by Zombies. Kill them and
you can amass a huge amount of 5.45 BP ammo. Wait and most are all
gone. These are only small examples of what each level may differ in.

Here's another example for you to compare and see how you did:

The Marshes level contains 60 activated stashes. Did you buy and find
them all? You only have 3 or 4 days to activate them all by killing the
Renegades and searching their bodies ( in addition to buying a dozen or
so from Nimble ) before they "deactivate" ( or become non-activatable so
to speak ) so time is limited. There were about 40 white capsules that
are out in the open to find for basic supplies. There were 5 Quest Items
to ask for, find the items and return them to their giver including a PDA,
an artifact and other stuff. Failure to give the Quest Giver the item they
ask for may result in no more Quest Tasks given by that Faction or Level.

Here's what I left the Marshes for the first time with:

And afterwards you can loot it from the NPC again once he's died.

Do they deactivate in CS too? I thought that was in SoC only.

Maybe deactivate was the wrong word. What I meant to say is for a very
limited time they are activatable. Wait too long they simply don't activate.
The Marshes level is the only one that I saw that behaved in this manner.

Never noticed that for the Swamps. Can't you activate the Swamp stashes by looting NPCs on other levels? It's been a while, but I recall that's what I used to do (killing Renegades becomes repetitive after a while).

Each word should be at least 3 characters long.
